the main attraction
Beach access is ideal from any of the major resorts where equipment and beach showers are often provided. Public beach access is available, but it’s necessary to know where to find it as many beach entrances are private. In all of South Carolina, the beach itself is public property and free to visit; however, private property owners often prohibit parking or access for the general visitor to reach the oceanfront.
These are public access areas: Collier Beach Park, Alder Lane, Coligny Beach, Folly Field, Islanders Beach Park, Dreissen’s Beach Park and Mitchelville Beach Park. Parking at some of these locations is with pass or metered and very limited. A two-year pass is available from the town only to residents or property owners.
All of these town parks or access areas open at 6 am, with closing hours which vary with the seasons. Coligny Beach Park is open 24 hours, although the restrooms are only open during the basic daytime park hours.
Beach regulations of the town and county include strict prohibitions governing alcohol, pets, etc. and should be carefully followed.
